My work stems from moments of introspection, prompting me to question the nature of identity, connection, and perception. My practice is rooted in a deep appreciation for the interplay between color, balance, and form. Each piece I have created in the past reflects both the New Mexico landscape in which I have grown up and my love for cats. I draw inspiration from the world around me and my multi-ethnic background, which I will explore more in my upcoming senior exhibition. The natural landscapes and recurring line work throughout my Pueblo roots, Irish, and Dutch ancestry intertwine my creative process, allowing me to translate my observations into visual and intuitive expressions. I work with acrylic; the medium allows me to convey emotion and bring meaning to my ideas. My artistic approach is intuitive; I embrace experimenting and learning new ways to inform my decisions, which leads to new, unexpected discoveries. Ultimately, I hope my work can resonate with viewers and connect on a level of shared love for cats and the experience of being multi-racial. I aspire to create pieces that reflect my journey and encourage dialogue and introspection among those who encounter them.
